STALLION PROFILE: MAYSON
Mayson is the son of champion stallion Invincible Spirit out of a Pivotal mare, Mayleaf. He was born in the UK in May 2008. He is owned by David Armstrong and Cheveley Park Stud and trained by Richard Fahey.
Mayson started his racing career at a 2YO in 2010 but it wasn’t until his 4YO season in 2012 that he really showed what he could do. He gained his first Listed success when winning the Abernant Stakes. He followed this up with his first Group win in the Palace House Stakes two weeks later. After a few disappointing runs he headed to the July Cup, it was run on heavy ground and included a star-studded field including the Al Quoz Sprint winner and also the Golden Jubilee Stakes winner but Mayson was able to go on and win the July Cup by 5 lengths. Giving jockey Paul Hanagan his first Group 1 victory.
After such a terrific win Mayson then travelled to France for the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp, but he was swamped late and was beaten a neck.
Unfortunately, he then sustained an injury and was retired to stud.
"He's been a great horse for us. There won't be many horses that have won an Abernant, a Palace House and a July Cup all in the same year." - Trainer Richard Fahey
Throughout his career, Mayson earned a total of £417,649 and retired after 18 starts for 5 wins, and 7 placings.
Mayson currently stands as a stallion at Cheveley Park Stud and is the sire of Highclere import, Olympic Theatre.
