A NOTE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
Since first arriving to Australian shores in 2003 to speak at the Carbine Club Luncheon during Melbourne Cup week, I have been captivated by the Australian racing scene. The experience of the Cup alone had me utterly transfixed when our very own Distinction finished sixth in the ‘race that stops a nation’ the following year. Every year since then we have searched high and low to find the next suitable Cup contender for our share owners.
In our short time of sending proven horses down to Australia we have had Group 1 winner Opinion, Group 1-placed Libran fly the flag for Highclere Australia and dual Group 3 winner Great House. Libran was crowned NSW Champion Stayer during his 2016 season after success at Group 2 level and his close second in Gr.1 Sydney Cup. The allure of Australian racing and the fantastic prizemoney on offer has been showcased through both horses, who amassed over $2 million in prizemoney between them since arriving Down Under.
