Highland Reel is a son of Galileo out of a Danehill mare. He was a Group 2 winner as a 2YO, a Four-time Group 1 winner as a 3YO and in 2016 he was the champion older horse in Ireland.
He raced in 7 different countries and was a 7-time Group 1 winner. He also holds the record for the greatest amount of prize money earned by a racehorse trained in Europe.
His major wins consisted of Vintage Stakes (2014), Gordon Stakes (2015), Secretariat Stakes (2015), Hong Kong Vase (2015, 2017), K.George VI & Q. Elizabeth Stakes (2016), Breeders' Cup Turf (2016), Coronation Cup (2017) and the Prince of Wales's Stakes (2017)
Trained by Aidan O’Brien he retired in December 2017 after 27 starts for 10 wins, 6 seconds and 3 thirds. Totalling Seven and a Half million pounds.

In November 2022 he had his first Stakes Winner with High Approach making light of testing wet conditions at Flemington to score a courageous win in the Listed VRC Tab Trophy Stakes (1800m).
