HIGHCLERE RACING'S WEEKLY NEWS
7/6/2022
It has been a very hard week for Highclere Australia off the track. As many of you would’ve seen, we were saddened to announce the passing of Linda Fleiter.
Linda, the wife of Highclere Australia managing director Tony, was an important and critical member of the Highclere Australia outfit since its launch almost a decade ago. Her administrative skills, IT prowess and her deep knowledge of the racing and breeding industries – as well as the many schemes and syndicates within them – was of immense significance, not just for Highclere Australia but for other syndicators as well as stallion syndicate business Sire Custodians, of which she was a director.
Much loved and admired by owners for her passion, her emotion and her occasionally brusque and plain-spoken nature, she is a tremendous loss for the Highclere Australia team. Linda and Tony shared a genuine love that had an immeasurable impact on all who knew them and it was the foundation upon which Highclere Australia has been able to rebuild after the death of original director Niall Power last year.
Our thoughts go out to Tony and all their family and friends.
When Bartholomeu Dias ran on Saturday, Jaden Lloyd wore a black armband in memory of Linda. Bart didn’t have the best of luck on a wet track when making his debut for Annabel Neasham but aided by a great ride by Jaden and some clear divine intervention from Linda Bartholomeu Dias came from last to claim victory at Eagle Farm. It was a deserving win for the 8YO gelding who seems to have gained a new lease on life with the change of stables. It was also a very emotional win for Highclere Racing Australia, especially for Tony and family and friends of Linda. We would like to extend our congratulations to all the connections and hope it is onwards and upwards for Bart.
This week we look forward to Great House continuing the winning way when he lines up in the Q22 on Saturday. He was terrific last start when running 4th in the Doomben Cup so a drop back in grade and continued fitness improvement we are optimistic he can run well.
Our Highland Reel Filly, now named Highland Cathedral had her first trial last week, running fourth, which was a very pleasing result as she jumped well and handled the occasion very well. Fitness gave out in the straight and the 800m trials will always be a little short, as she looks a filly who will get the staying trips. She will have another trial, then it will be off to the races. If you want to get involved in her ownership and be at the races cheering her on in a few weeks email info@highclereracing.com.au. Shares won’t last long!
