HIGHCLERE WEEKLY NEWS
30/8/23
It was a very exciting week for Highclere Racing Australia as Highland Cathedral broke her maiden by 9 lengths at Beaudesert last Friday. She was Winx odds as the race caller put it but she was never in doubt. The win will give her a lot of confidence as she progresses through the campaign.
Like Highland Cathedral, Great House has also made his way up to Queensland where he is likely to be running towards the end of September. His last preparation was below our expectations but hopefully, after a spell and change of scenery, he will bounce back to his better form.
Naval College is also well and back in pre-training, how time flies it feels like only yesterday he was racing. He looks well and although early days it is very exciting to have him back in work and we can’t wait to see what he can do in his second Australia preparation after such a successful first preparation with the Annabel Neasham team.
As he starts his preparation on the other hand Olympic Theatre has unfortunately come to the end of his preparation as he heads out for some rest and relaxation and will return to run over the summer months.
Bartolomeu Dias, who is slowly approaching the end of his career, had a trial at Doomben through the week in preparation to run at Doomben next Saturday. His last preparation was arguably his best when winning on Melbourne Cup Day. Now a 9-year-old he is struggling to find that form but he continues to enjoy his work and has always shown a liking for Queensland so hopefully, there is one more win in the old boy.
Durston is coming along nicely, his tendon has healed very well but unfortunately, a foot abscess has set his preparation back, but there was never a rush to get him back for the 2023 Spring Carnival so we will instead turn our thoughts to the 2024 Autumn Carnival and then hopefully another Caulfield Cup in 2024 or even the elusive Melbourne Cup. Either way, he has been a super horse for Highclere Australia and we can’t wait to see him back at the track next year.
While on the topic of Durston tomorrow is the NSW Racehorse Owners Awards Night and we are very excited to have Durston as a finalist for the NSW Stayer of the Year award. Make sure you tune into our socials to see if he wins!
