HIGHCLERE RACING WEEKLY NEWS
29/11/23
It was a quiet Spring Carnival for Highclere Racing this year so there hasn’t been a lot to report in recent weeks but a quiet carnival means a very busy Summer and it is certainly shaping up that way.
Great House has continued to run up in Queensland and we are looking forward to seeing him run at Doomben on Saturday. He hasn’t had the best of luck but he also hasn’t been running over his preferred distance so it is great to see him up over the 2000m this start. He has been hitting the line well and has a good attitude towards his work and racing so hopefully now he can return to winning form, although he does have a wide barrier to overcome.
Naval College has been up trialling and trialled well with the addition of blinkers earlier this week so it won’t be long before he is back at the races. He was terrific in his first Australian preparation and although it may take a few runs to build his fitness for his preferred distance it is exciting to have him back and ready to return to the races over these Summer months.
Our newest import, Redstone Well, also with Annabel Neasham has certainly settled into Australian life well. He is now enjoying his gallops at Warwick Farm and continues to impress Annabel and the riders with Chad Schofield having his first sit on him earlier this week where he was very impressed and said “He gives him a real quality feel”. These are all terrific signs early on and he is now only a couple of weeks off a trial so it won’t be long before we see him in full flight. There are still a few shares available in him so if you haven’t already grabbed yourself a share or know any friends/family that would be interested, they won’t be waiting long to have a runner so it's the perfect time to get involved. E-mail racing@highclereracing.com.au for more information.
Another horse that won’t be long before he gets back to the track is Olympic Theatre. He was very good in his first trial and will have another next week before returning to the track. As he is also better over the longer trips he will need a few conditioning runs but he appears to have come back in great order and all reports are positive so hopefully he too is in for a good preparation over these Summer months.
You may have seen Durston was nominated for the Australian Stayer of Year. This was a wonderful achievement although the competition was hard. The awards were held last week and unfortunately Gold Trip took out the award ahead of Durston, so it was disappointing not to win but we were honoured to be nominated and hopefully can take the award next year. Durston is now back in work and heading towards the Autumn Carnival.
Highland Cathedral also had a pleasing preparation last time in, her first up in Queensland. She has since had a little break and is set to return to training shortly. How time flies.
Speaking of time flying, we are almost into December and soon Christmas will be upon us. We hope you have all asked Santa what you would like for Christmas. I know here at Highclere Racing Australia we have asked for many winners over the Summer months and well into 2024. Let’s hope we are on the nice list :)
That’s all the news this week, but as always make sure you are following us on our socials so you are up to date with all runners and news from Highclere.
