HIGHCLERE WEEKLY NEWS
10/10/23
We hope you have been following Highclere Racing Australia in the last few weeks. As we mentioned in our last news article, It was fantastic to see Highland Cathedral win at Beaudesert, she was unlucky the start after but up to 2100m last start she was too strong for them at Ipswich. Although only winning by a narrow margin it was a big jump from 1600m to 2100m so her fitness was bound to give out late, but to her credit she got the job done. She is thriving up in Queensland having placed or won at 4 of her 5 starts. She is certainly one to watch.
Great House resumed on Saturday, having also made the move up to Queensland, albeit too short over the 1400m but he ran home well and will only improve with the benefit of the run and as he continues to stretch out in distance. He hasn’t performed up to his best in his previous preparation so fingers crossed the change in location was exactly what he needed.
Naval College and Olympic Theatre are both back in work as we gear up for the summer months. They are both in the early stages but working well. We will continue to update you on both of them as they get closer to resuming.
Durston is also back in work at the Chris Waller Stable. Although we won’t see him race this year as he had a minor setback it is great to see him back in the stables, he will have a short preparation and then a spell before preparing to return to the race track in the Autumn. It is hard to think this time last year we were going through a roller coaster of emotions leading up to the Caulfield Cup. A win that saw him take out the NSW Stayer of the Year and also earn him a nomination for Australian Stayer of the Year. Those awards are not until the end of November and he is up against some hard competition with Melbourne Cup winner, Gold Trip, also nominated for the award but we have beaten him once before so hopefully history can repeat itself and Durston can claim victory. Either way it is fantastic to be recognised for his achievements.
You would’ve all seen by now our wonderful new addition to Highclere Racing Australia in Redstone Well. A 3 time winner in Ireland he can run both Melbourne and Sydney way and is a winner on dry track and wet, which racing in Australia you certainly need to be equipped with both given the unpredictable weather. He is being trained by Annabel Neasham and has settled in and acclimatised very well which is fantastic to see. This is a trait recent import, Naval College, also possessed and he had a terrific first preparation so we expect similar things from Redstone Well. He is by Cotai Glory and has a great resemblance to him so we are very excited for what the future holds for him. There are still a few shares left in him but I wouldn’t wait long, email racing@highclereracing.com.au to secure your share!
I think that gets you up to date for now but as always keep following our socials to keep informed on everything Highclere Racing.
