JOHN WARREN
Bloodstock Advisor
John is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading bloodstock advisors, with 35 years of experience and a deeply astute understanding of the thoroughbred industry. He has established himself as one of the most talented horsemen in the thoroughbred industry, having spent time under the tutelage of Barry Hills and Peter Walwyn in the UK, Con Collins in Ireland and Francois Boutin in France.
In 1980, John set up his own company, John Warren Bloodstock, and it soon became apparent that he had an exceptional eye for a yearling. His early purchases included the Group 1-winning two-year-olds Creag An Sgor and Mister Majestic, both of which won the Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket and more recently he bought the St Leger winner, Sixties Icon. This success continued with the creation in 1992 of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing Limited of which John is a Director and is responsible for buying all of the yearlings. His purchases for HTR include our seven champions: Lake Coniston, Delilah, Tamarisk and Petrushka, Motivator (the Royal Ascot Racing Club’s 2005 Derby winner), Memory (ROA Champion 2YO Filly) and Harbinger (World Champion 2010).
John is married to Harry’s sister Carolyn and together they own and run Highclere Stud where they stand Cable Bay and Land Force. John is also racing and bloodstock advisor to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and advises such breeders as the Dukes of Roxburghe and Devonshire, Bill Gredley and Newsells Park Stud. He is a council member of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents. In December 2012, John was elected as a Member of The Jockey Club.
